Father’s Day Picks
Father’s Day is Sunday, June 17, so we decided to give everyone over a week to prepare.
There are lots of great picks out there, but remember that most of them can be bought locally, at stores here.
Beats Ear Headphones
The man seated next to me on a plane last week had these and I was sold. They are hi-resolution in-ear headphones (created by Dr. Dre) that have so many great features. The ear bud actually stays in your ear. The cord is flat and doesn’t tangle. And, they come in a great case for traveling. Your man will thank you. If he doesn’t, take the ear headphones for yourself. Click here to buy.
Bourbon and Bowties: A Taste of Corbett’s Tie
June 14 is the Third Annual Bourbon and Bowties: A Taste of Corbett’s. Each year a different bowtie is designed for the event, with all the proceeds benefiting Kosair Children’s Hospital. The bowties retail for $65 and the long ties for $75. They are sold locally at Cartwheels and The Fashion Post. The event features hors d’oeuvres from 15 of Louisville’s top chefs, music, and live and silent auctions. A tie and a ticket to this event sounds like a fun way to kick off the Father’s Day Weekend! Sparq Soapstone Rocks
Called “Whiskey Rocks” or “Coffee Stones” these soapstone rocks keep your drinks hot or cold. Stick them in the freezer and they become like ice cubes, but don’t dilute your drink. Stick them in the microwave for a couple minutes and they keep your coffee warm. Sold locally at Gifthorse. $20 for 9 rocks. Click here for more information.
Classic White Linen shirt
Every man needs a classic white linen button down for the summer. Dress it up with slacks or dress it down untucked over your madras shorts. Either way, it keeps you cool and looking handsome. This shirt above is the brand “Mine,” sold locally at The Fashion Post for $125.
Money Clip Wallet
The best of both worlds: a money clip and a wallet all in one. This is lightweight leather wallet is available at Cartwheels for $26.
A “Louisville Map” Belt
Now your man will never have to ask for directions again. He can just refer to his belt buckle for guidance. This belt is sold at Scout for $235.
New Polos and Swimsuits
T’is the season, the season for swimsuits. Pick up a nice one and a polo that goes with it. No more speedos and college t-shirts for him at the pool. These Vineyard Vines swimsuits retail for $79.50 and the Southern Tide Skipjack polos for $75 at The Fashion Post.
Cardboard Safari Mount
This is “taxidermy lite.” If your man doesn’t have the prowess of a safari hunter but still likes the animal mounts, here is a cardboard bison for him. There are also deer and other animals worth mounting. These come in small ($18), medium ($35) and large ($65) and are available at Scout. This is the kind of present your kids will LOVE to give him and then you have to figure out what to do with it…garland at Christmas?
I find that men don’t want to admit a vision problem, so keep these little handsomes stashed in your purse. Now, he won’t be wearing your leopard cheaters at dinner to read the menu anymore. eye*bobs are sold at Scout and The Fashion Post. Prices start around $85.
Shave and a haircut
All men have a barber they love. Thinking out of the box, how about buying a giftcard for an old-fashioned shave or some other service? Here at Market St. Barbers they offer haircuts, hot lather straight-razor shaves, grey blending and scalp massages. For more information, click here.
