We have already established that facial hair is definitely a trend right now. As we are full-blown into winter, it seems as though many males around here are growing their fur and heading into hibernation.
But there is an offshoot of this trend that has made its way into fashion and accessories: mustaches.
This is especially popular with the teen and tween market and I picked up on it a little late. My daughter requested an all-mustache birthday party last month, complete with mustache cake, accessories and gifts. The conversation went something like this:
“Mom, I want an all-mustache party.”
“You mean like the people paint mustaches on like Burt Reynolds or Tom Selleck?”
“Who is that?”
“You know Magnum P.I. and Smokey and the Bandit.”
“Smokey the Bear? No mom, I want a mustache cake not a bear cake. “
“Forget it. I’ll look on Pinterest.”
Ask and you shall receive. I got the recipe off of Pinterest. It was pretty easy, just a round yellow cake and chocolate frosting. Here is the recipe.
The girl had more mustache-themed gifts than I’ve ever seen. Fast forward to Christmas and her whole stocking at Grandma’s is mustaches. She’s elated and I’m confused.
What am I missing here? They’re cute. I mean I guess for facial hair, they’re cute. But basing a wardrobe around them? Well, you sure can. Here’s what I found:

So there it is. My montage to the mustache. And still, why are they so popular again? I’d appreciate any enlightenment in the comments below.
